A project that has been six years in the making has now become reality for the City of Fort Thomas and the Campbell County North Soccer Club.
The Fort Thomas Soccer Park recently added a new concession stand and storage building to the city-owned facility which is located at the Pendery Sports Complex in Melbourne.
The City of Fort Thomas acquired the Fort Thomas Soccer Park property in 2001 and the Campbell County North Soccer Club has leased the property from the city for recreational soccer use since then.
"Youth soccer is a huge outlet for kids to get out and do stuff," said Neal Frink, coaching coordinator for the club. The Campbell County North Soccer Club registers around 900 children, ages 5-15 who play recreational soccer in the fall and spring each year.
The concession stand will be managed by the city and staffed by volunteer organizations, which will share profits with the Campbell County North Soccer Club.
"The concession stand will be a convenience for the parents and grandparents watching the kids play soccer," said Don Martin, Fort Thomas city administrative officer. "The concession stand will allow the parents and grandparents to bring a lunch and watch the kids play soccer."
The storage building allows the club to house field maintenance equipment, corner flags, and soccer nets. The building project is part of a master plan that the Campbell County North Soccer Club adopted for the Fort Thomas Soccer Park.
The project depleted the club's reserve funds so additional projects are currently on hold. The additional projects include a lighting prediction system, playground equipment, and tree plantings.
"The Fort Thomas Soccer Park will be a bonus to the city, just like a downtown area," said Frink.Labels: football news, news |
