Milan visit comes to an end
Milan left Malta yesterday after a most memorable visit which culminated in last Tuesday’s friendly against local champions Birkirkara, played in front of a capacity 17,000 plus crowd.

Carlo Ancelotti’s side won 5-0 after leading 1-0 at the interval.

The top Italian side delighted thousands of club fans on the islands with their presence here. They left Malta for Milan yesterday afternoon. And at the airport, hundreds of Milan fans were present to bid farewell to their heroes.

Italian football websites and newspapers reported on Tuesday night’s match.

Among them, La Gazzetta dello Sport said that Milan enjoyed the evening and delighted the capacity crowd at the Ta’ Qali Stadium.

The report said that coach Ancelotti could appreciate the improvements registered by his players at the end of this training camp.

It said that after the 3-2 win over Juventus in the Berlusconi Trophy match at San Siro last Saturday, other improvements were noted in the match against Birkirkara, especially from the mental aspect.

In the Football Italia website, the correspondent, under the headline ‘Grimi shines in Milan debut’, said that the Rossoneri hope to rediscover their form after this winter training jaunt in the warmth of the island. It added that the squad had shown signs of a recovery.

After saying that the local champions Birkirkara were thrashed and a mention was made of the goalscorers, the report said that all eyes were on Grimi who made a second half appearance. “The Argentine performed well when he came on for the second half. He was focused and eager to impress, but it looks as if the South American will need several weeks before he can be match fit and ready for a Serie A debut. The 21-year-old left back was playing his first game for Milan since his switch last week from Racing Club of Argentina.

On Monday I met Grimi at Adidas/Eurosport during that reception in honour of the players and officials who had signed autographs and took pictures with fans. I asked him what he thought of Milan football club despite having signed just three days earlier. He said “fantastic, fantastic and unbelievable. I never imagined it was such a big thing to join a club like Milan. I look forward to a successful stay with the Rossoneri.”
